Our decadent lodge has unrivalled accommodation and facilities as well as outstanding cuisine and service from a dedicated team of staff. Bighorn also has a private helipad from which guests can fly directly to the renowned heli ski terrain of the Selkirk Mountains. Heli skiing is complemented by superb lift skiing at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
Congratulations to our hardworking team who make staying at Bighorn a unique and now award-winning experience!
We are delighted to be featured in this month’s Vanity Fair magazine. Their ‘Superchalets’ feature highlights the very best luxury chalets in the world. Bighorn is described as “The apex of chalet luxury in North America at the pinnacle of heliskiing”. Uniquely we offer the ultimate in accommodation and service alongside private heliskiing adventures in the Selkirk Mountains. The result is that this “thrashes the finest bespoke skiing in the world”.
We are delighted that Bighorn has been nominated as Canada’s Best Chalet at the World Ski Awards. The stunning accommodation, outstanding service, delicious food and of course world class heli and resort skiing sealed our nomination. With competition from properties in Whistler, Bighorn is really putting Revelstoke on the map. With North America’s highest vertical descent at Revelstoke Mountain Resort and epic heliskiing direct from the house helipad, Bighorn has the perfect blend of luxury and adventure.
Renowned ski journalist Gabriella Le Breton shares her top picks for what is new and exciting on the slopes this season in a recent article for CampdenFB. Heliskiing at Bighorn is featured because it offers “unparalleled luxury”. The lodge has a private helipad which allows for a bespoke heliski package, either flying into the Selkirk Mountains for a heliski adventure or enjoying the exciting terrain at nearby Revelstoke Mountain Resort. The “palatial guest suites, a triple height great room with sweeping mountain views, celebrated chef, private cinema, outdoor hot tub and extensive spa” set Bighorn apart from any other lodge in North America.
CamdenFB focuses on family business so Bighorn, which was developed by brothers Michael and Chris Kirkland, is particularly relevant for readers. Read the full article on heliskiing at Bighorn here.
The Sunday Telegraph’s Gabriella Le Breton raved about Revelstoke in last weekend’s Travel supplement. Describing the resort as “Canada’s best kept secret”, she shares her incredible experience skiing “powder bowls, steep drops, extensive glades and thigh-burstingly long pistes”:
“It’s just another powder day in Revelstoke Mountain Resort, one of the world’s snowiest places, where sharing more than 3,000 acres of fall-line skiing, high-alpine bowls, gladed terrain and North America’s highest lift-serviced vertical drop with just a hundred fellow skiers is ‘normal'”.
To complement the amazing skiing, Bighorn offers unrivaled standards of accommodation: “one of the most esteemed private lodges in North America… Bighorn is unique: it offers world-class heli-skiing from a lodge with facilities and service hitherto limited to chalets in resorts like Courchevel and Zermatt”.
It’s appropriate that the best ski resort in the world should house the top luxury chalet either side of the Atlantic”
“Is this the best ski resort in the world? After skiing wooded mountainsides in the deepest and lightest powder I’ve been fortunate enough to experience over the past half-century… the answer was a surprising, but unequivocal, ‘yes’ “.
Telegraph, December 2012
Bighorn was showered with superlatives in last weekend’s Telegraph Travel. Having concluded that the resort and heli skiing in Revelstoke is unbeatable, the article went on to describe why Bighorn is the world’s top luxury chalet; “Bighorn – all astonishing 15,000 square feet of it – manages to combine the best of Bristish know-how with Canadian grandeur”. The property, including bedroom suites “twice the size of those in a comparably priced French chalet” and the movie theatre and games room “on a scale of both comfort and size I have not seen before” is simply . The pièce de résistance is the cuisine and service from our chef and house manager – the chef “should be running a Michelin-starred restaurant in a European capital”.
In summary the author concludes “you can eat and ski well in Whistler, but Revelstoke, with Bighorn, is on another scale”.
US Vogue recently shared its top picks for the best winter spa destinations. Bighorn, “a superindulgent, sprawling eight-suite lodge” won praise for the “views of the Columbia Valley from the terrace hot tub, on-site helipad, gourmet fare and private screening room”. With a “bounty of body wraps, facials and aromatherapy massages, it is easy to forget you are steps away from some of Canada’s best lift, cat, heli and backcountry skiing“. Other spa facilities include a indoor current pool, sauna, gym and 2 treatment rooms. Private yoga instruction, stretching and personal training is also available. The private chef can create healthy yet delicious menus and can happily cater for any dietary restrictions. Plus, the whole lodge is rented exclusively for your party so total privacy and dedicated service is guaranteed.
The Robb Report is the definitive guide to global luxury. This month’s issue describes Bighorn as “A heli-skier’s haven raising the bar”. The author goes on to explain how the Bighorn concept excels in providing unbeatable access to the world’s best heliskiing.
“We landed atop one peak and shuffled out of the helicopter, which soon took off in a flurry of powder. Then in the quiet, with heavenlike views all around, we started down our first run. At the bottom I checked my watch: less than an hour earlier I was still in bed.”
Bespoke private heli skiing is backed up by North America’s best chalet accommodation. The author praises the award-winning chef’s delicious cuisine and the sumptuous facilities including spa, outdoor hot tub and movie theatre that allow guests to completely relax after an incredible day’s skiing.
The team at Bighorn are delighted to have been crowned Number One Heliski Destination in North America by Outside magazine. Our inaugural season has started with a bang as guests have been blown away by the stunning accommodation, Revelstoke’s incredible snowfall and the amazing heliski terrain in the Selkirk and Monashee Mountains.
Outside is America’s leading active-lifestyle and adventure travel magazine and their travel experts search the globe for the best and most innovative outdoor experiences. It is the unique experience on offer at Bighorn that Outside loved so much; “Bighorn is the lovechild of two outstanding concepts: the European catered chalet and a Canadian heliski outfit. Strap on your ski boots in the morning, shoot a round of pool as you watch for the bird to land in the backyard, and then hop in for a ride to 500,000 acres of bowls, glades, and glaciers in the ragged Selkirks”.
Bighorn offers heliskiing direct from the house helipad with Selkirk Tangiers Heliskiing and lift or cat skiing at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Tim Neville from Outside commented that “there are plenty of things to do when storms keep the helicopter tethered to the ground—like ski out the door and ride the lifts at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, which has the most vertical feet of any mountain in North America (5,620 feet). Either way, you’ll get a powder day”.
Indulgence doesn’t stop with the outstanding skiing however, as Bighorn offers new standards of luxury accommodation, service and cuisine “Chef Peter Hughes will be waiting in the rotorwash to serve you champagne by a huge stone fireplace and salmon canapés or duck confit on the chalet’s 15-foot-long black walnut table”.
